Rao reached Kothirampur on Karimnagar outskirts at 11.50 am from where he entered the city in a rally. But instead of travelling in an open top jeep as she used to do in the past when he was heading the agitation for separate state, Rao a chose bullet proof bus. It is said that the decision to travel by bullet proof bus was taken on the advice of the police citing security reasons. KCR has a special attachment towards Karimnagar district as he had launched all important programmes from here before the state was bifurcated. The officials made elaborate arrangements to see that his first visit after coming to power turned out to be a great success. He scored a hat-trick of wins in parliamentary elections from this district. This district was the hotbed of the separate state movement for well over a decade and was considered a TRS fortress for the same reason.

A large number of college students, men and women of all ages lined up on either side of the road all along the route to greet him. Women came along with Bathukamma, Bonalu etc to greet the Chief Minister. Rao went round waving at the crowd from the bus and at some select places by getting down from the bus on a few occasions during his rally. At one place he invited a freedom fighter to share space with him in the bus. At Sikhwadi, which is home to thousands of Sikh families, including Karimnagar TRS Mayor S Ravinder Singh, Rao was presented with a big 'Talwar’ (sword).

The 3km rally took 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach the municipal corporation office near Karimnagar Bus Station. Rao laid the foundation stone for the Karimnagar city renovation programme and Haritha Haaram drive to plant one lakh tree saplings in the town and improvement of R & B roads with a budget of Rs 36 crore. Rao was scheduled to inaugurate a Pylon as a symbol of victory for having achieved separate T state but cancelled the programme following protests by opposition parties during the last two days. The opposition parties said that the Pylon was against the Supreme Court guidelines.
