Tenants in a bind over mega survey, Telangana State government’s Intensive Household Survey scheduled for August 19 has made the tenants, especially in Greater Hyderabad region, a worried lot.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government’s Intensive Household Survey scheduled for August 19 has made the tenants, especially in Greater Hyderabad region, a worried lot.
Many property owners, who have rented their houses and are residing in other cities, have decided to be present personally when enumerator would visit for the comprehensive survey. This is turning out to be a nightmare for the tenants as they fear of not being covered in the survey. Although the government made it clear that the Telangana State natives staying elsewhere need not come to Hyderabad as the survey was essentially meant to identify BPL beneficiaries', few owners were ready to buy it.
A Vijayanand, a tenant staying with his family in a flat in Uppal, is facing this odd situation. The owner of the house, who stays far away in Mumbai, has been making repeated phone calls stating that he along with his family would be coming here to be present in his 'own' house for the survey. The owner even suggested that both families remain at the time of the survey. While he could give his family details and show property ownership documents, the tenants could give his details as temporary occupants of the house.
However, when The Hans India contacted GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and apprised him about the concerns of owners and tenants on the survey, he clarified that the survey was not meant to identify the house owners. Rather, it was to identify poor families who stand to benefit from government schemes, he said. Two different families would not be covered in the survey. The enumerators would collect details from those who have been staying at the house for quite some time, he said, adding, “There is no question of collecting details of owners, who are staying elsewhere. We will ask details of latest LPG bill, telephone bill among others to ascertain who has been residing in that flat or house for the last few months.”
