Hyderabad: In a departure from the over five-decades-old tradition of Independence Day celebrations at Parade Grounds, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao hoisted the national flag at the historic Golconda Fort here on Friday.

The Telangana government chose the fort as the venue in order to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Telangana and also to recall the historic significance and cultural heritage associated with the Golconda Fort. Originally built by the Kakatiya kings during the 10th century, the Fort later became the seat of power of the Qutub Shahi kingdom. After paying tributes to martyrs at a memorial at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, Rao drove to Golconda. With the majestic fort forming the backdrop, he unfurled the National Flag on a 62-ft tall pole from a makeshift platform close to the iconic Taramati mosque at 9.30 am. Due to lack of adequate space, the traditional parade and display of tableaux of different government departments was done away with. Rao during his address sought to dispel the fears existing in some sections regarding the intensive household survey slated for August 19. He reiterated that it was only meant to ensure transparency in implementation of government schemes. Some evil forces were out to create unnecessary confusion with their concocted statements regarding the survey, he criticised.

In his brief 20-minute speech, Rao said that the Telangana Public Service Commission would be set up in the next few days and very soon a notification for 50,000 jobs would be issued. He said the government was preparing a land bank of 10 lakh acres especially for industry purposes. Through the single window industrial policy, the government hopes to attract big investments into the state.

The Chief Minister informed that Kalyanalakshmi scheme (SC and ST families to be given Rs 50,000 financial aid for marriage expenses of daughter) and enhancement of pension for old-aged and handicapped persons would be implemented between Dussera and Diwali festivals.

He said Rs 1000 crore would be allotted in budget for the welfare of Muslims, besides giving judicial powers to Wakf Tribunal. He further said the government was committed to implementation of 12 per cent reservation to Muslims. Relaxations would be announced for Christians for construction of churches. The mandatory rule of permission from the District Collector would be done away with, he added. A Sikh leader being made the Mayor of Karimnagar for the first time in state was an indication of the religious harmony in the Telangana State, Rao said.

In order to solve drinking water woes in villages, towns and cities, the TRS government would implement the Telangana Drinking Water Grid scheme. Through this, every house in the state would get drinking water supply. He also mentioned about the commitment of the government to implement the loan waiver scheme.

Rao said Hyderabad would be ringed by various clusters like pharma city, sports city, cinema city, education city, health city, manufacturing city. New bus and train terminals would be set up in the four directions of the State capital. It would also be made 4G WiFi-enabled city, the CM said. He distributed land pattas to 48 women beneficiaries from various districts on the occasion.
