Hyderabad: The water department officials of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have been working frantically for the past three days in an effort to transfer the water bill data into computers. There are over 40,000 connections in the cantonment including illegal connections.

Raj Kumar, superintendent, Water Works, SCB said, “The work would be completed in another week. 13,000 connections have been made online in the last three days.”

Thirty five employees from different departments of SCB are on the job and a special team comprising four members is moving from one area to another to sensitise people and to regularise connections. About 3,000 illegal connections in slums have been regularised. There are 36 official and seven identified slums in the Cantonment and the team has covered Bolarum and Picket area and would be covering the whole cantonment by the end of the month, the official disclosed.

Another senior official of SCB warned that severe action would be taken if people were found using illegal water connection. The properties would be attached especially of chronic defaulters, he added.

Unique Consumer Number for all connections
Each water connection would be given a Unique Consumer Number (UCN) that would be helpful in paying bills at the AP Online centre. There would be two ticket dispensing machines at every centre and consumers would be alerted about their bills on mobile phones.

However, an official said that the first priority was to get all the data online which would be followed by setting up of ticket dispensing machines.

3,000 illegal connections regularised in two slums, 500 individual houses in colonies regularised. Meanwhile, SCB regularised 3,000 illegal connections in Kanta Basti and Pedda Kamela. A team of four would be covering other slums such as Sanjeevaiah Nagar, Valmiki Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar and Second Laxmi Nagar to weed out illegal connections.
