Bifurcation blues have hit the electricity department. Of late several government organisations have joined the infamous long list of defaulters. With no other go the electricity department officials are cutting off power to those organisations which have defaulted on the payment. However, this power cut technique isn’t yielding results.
- Debts increased post bifurcation
- Govt organisations defaulted lakhs of rupees
- Lack of clarity on payment
- New MLA Qrs, Commercial Tax Office, Ranga Reddy Collectorate, DGP office major defaulters
A month ago the officials stopped power supply to 7 quarters in the New MLA Quarters, Saifabad, for about an hour as they have debts to the tune of Rs 30 lakh. The power was restored only after assurances by the senior officers of the MLA Quarters. However, till date the payment wasn’t made. There are several government organisations like MLA Quarters which have defaulted on the payment and many cite bifurcation blues as the reason.
“Most of the government organisations in the city were split into two post-bifurcation, though there is a general agreement that the AP government has to pay 52 per cent of the pending bills and Telangana government has to pay 48 per cent. Because of the due process these payments are getting delayed,” informed a senior officer (admin), New MLA Quarters.
Most of the government organisations owe lakhs of rupees to the electricity department and the Discom officials are breathing over their necks to clear the dues, which certainly is not going well, as the officers of the government organisations are head over heels in sorting out post bifurcation administrative hassles.
Electricity department officials have stated that they will continue to pressurise the defaulters but give time to clear the payments. Over the years the pending bills have increased by 15 per cent and this trend is more evident in Saifabad, Abids and Gunfoundry divisions, which have more government offices.
“If you default on your electricity bills, we will cut the power supply, no matter how big or small the organisation is, the crackdown continues. However, we will give a month’s time to the defaulters who have to pay lakhs of rupees,” informed Murali Krishna, divisional engineer (DE), Saifabad.
