Hyderabad: The ongoing war between the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over sharing of power further intensified on Friday with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao deciding to knock on the doors of the apex court as the Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB) asked the TS government to stop power generation at the Left Bank Power House of the Srisailam project.
At a late evening press conference on Friday, a fuming Chandrasekhar Rao held his AP counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu responsible for the acute power crisis in the state and charged him with indulging in threatening private power producers like Hindujas.
“Ashok Hinduja told me that Chandrababu Naidu had asked him not to supply power to Telangana State. Naidu is making false statements and is trying to show Telangana State in bad light. He has gone into a mission mode to see that the farmers in Telangana do not get power. Rao had said at 86 public meetings which he addressed during elections that TS would reel under power problems for three years. No political leader makes such claims,” KCR alleged.
Rao said that Naidu had made false promises of waiving off all loans without any limit for farmers and now he was behaving like a ‘Shaitan’ (Devil). “He has not only cheated TS farmers by violating the GOs issued by him, but also cheated the farmers of AP. So is the case with DWCRA women.”
Reeling out statistics, the CM said Telangana State has the right to generate power from Srisailam up to 834 feet water level and that his government would not stop power generation as demanded by Naidu. The present water level as on Friday was 857 feet. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and see that Naidu honour the AP State Reorganisation Act 2014 in letter and spirit. He further said he was accepting Naidu’s challenge for a debate on power issue. “Come to Abids with all the documents you have and I will bring the documents I have with me. I am even l ready to come to Vijayawada. I will expose you,” he thundered.
Referring to Krishnapatnam power project, he said it was not the “Jagir” of Naidu. Telangana has invested Rs 1,050 crore in that project and it was constructed as a joint venture and hence he cannot refuse to give 54 per cent of TS share, Rao said.
The Chief Minister said the APERC had also found fault with AP government for scrapping the PPAs entered into with APGENCO by the Telangana Discoms. More than Rs 1,000 crore had been spent by the Telangana power utilities in the projects in Andhra. “Naidu will have to cough up all the money spent in the projects and will have to pay heavy fine for not supplying power to Telangana,” he added.
He reiterated that in spite of the “arm-twisting tactics” adopted by Naidu, Telangana state was meeting the increasing power demand to a great extent. He said the state would become power surplus by 2017. An action plan to add 14,000 mw to the present capacity was getting ready, he added.
