Shaik Mustafa (11), a student of a Madarsa, was found with burn injuries at the Army Garrison in Mehdipatnam here on October 8. He succumbed to the burns at a hospital on the following day. Following vociferous protests by the locals, the investigation was transferred to a SIT on October 13.

In his dying declaration, Mustafa said that some Army men set him on fire. But the investigation by the SIT reveals facts to the contrary.

During its enquiries with the Army, the SIT was told by the military officials that their own internal inquiry found no presence of jawans in the area on the day of the incident. SIT also could not obtain any clue, corroborating the declaration of Mustafa. From Monday, the SIT would be focusing on Siddiqui Nagar locality, the residential colony of Mustafa.

Sources also point out that on the ill-fated day, the boy bought two toffees and two match boxes from a nearby Kirana shop. The statements of the shop owner were also recorded by the police. The forensic reports submitted recently to the police also ruled out any sexual assault or molestation or rape.
