BJP ahead in campaign Council polls in graduates constituency
The BJP is ahead of other parties in campaigning for the Graduates constituency Legislative Council elections which are likely to be held in January or February 2015.
- TRS, Cong yet to announce candidates
- TDP likely to support BJP
Warangal: The BJP is ahead of other parties in campaigning for the Graduates constituency Legislative Council elections which are likely to be held in January or February 2015. The TRS and the Congress are yet to announce their candidates, even as BJP named social worker Errabelli Rammohan Rao of Warangal as its nominee. The party is going ahead by organising meetings with voters and membership drives. Several TRS leaders are aspiring to contest the election. According to party sources, district president T Ravinder Rao and a senior leader N Venkateshwarlu have expressed interest, while Telangana Graduates’ Association president M Yadava Reddy, which is affiliated to the party, is keen to join the fray.
A few leaders from Khammam and Nalgonda districts are also keen to contest. In view of the stiff competition it has become difficult for the party leaders to finalise their nominee. Even though TRS has not launched electioneering, its leaders started enrollment of voters in Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts (which form the constituency).
The Congress is slack in finalising its nominee or organising electioneering. According to party sources, senior leader B Prakash of Warangal is said to be interested. There could be more aspirants from Khammam and Nalgonda districts, where the party has strong cadre.
TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah is likely to finalise soon the party nominee. The BJP has been banking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image to woo voters. The party activists are being asked to convince them that the election is between Modi and TS Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The TDP might not contest and support the BJP nominee. According to BJP National Executive member N Indrasena Reddy, the party has asked TDP leaders to back the nominee and received a positive response. If the Left parties join the fray the election could become tough.
