Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to give a complete makeover to the police force in the State that often bears the brunt of public wrath.

  • Police stations in TS get huge hike in operating funds
  • Monthly fund raised from `10,000 to `75,000
  • People do not have to pay for any service, stationery
  • Miscellaneous allowance to rise from present `2,000

The State government which took up a study of the conditions and the style of functioning of police stations has found that from the time an aggrieved person enters the police station till he/she is out with a copy of the complaint, he/ she is subjected a lot of mental agony, and in most cases, will be asked to part with money to meet administrative costs at the stations.

Most of the police stations do not have even white papers to take down complaints. They also do not have copiers to make copies of the complaint filed by a person.

The Inspectors usually ask complainants either to bring a bundle of white papers and meet all the expenses of copies they need to take for a complaint or ask them to pay some money to meet the expenditure. They claim that the Rs 10,000 that the government pay each police station per month is not sufficient to meet such expenditure.

Hence, the State government has now decided to increase the amount to Rs 75,000 to each police station per month.
