Nalgonda: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday made it clear that Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme would be completed within two years, at any cost. Speaking on the occasion of laying foundation stone ceremony and unveiling of the plaque of Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme at Shivannagudem village in Marriguda mandal in the district, the Chief Minister said that they could avail the facility to 30 to 35 tmc of water with the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme and provide irrigation facility to Devarakonda and Munugode constituencies.

Pointing out that lakhs of people have been suffering due to fluoride problem in the area, he felt that the rulers in united Andhra Pradesh had not paid heed to the pleas of the people of the area. Reminding that the earlier government had issued GO for utilisation of water from Dindi and Palamuru project for needs of Telangana in united Andhra Pradesh, by showing the GO copy, he said that the then Minister K Jana Reddy has submitted a detailed project report on Dindi lift irrigation project to him in 2007.

He assured that the works of the projects would be commenced within a month. Assuring that the government would extend the best possible relief and rehabilitation package to the evacuees or displaced persons of the project, the Chief Minister announced that the government would extend the compensation, which was equal to five times more than their land value, would be offered to the farmers.

In addition to this, a job would be provided to a family member of the evacuees. If there are two educated persons in the family, jobs to be provided both of them, he added. Only after implementing package for displaced farmers, the works of the project would take-off, he assured.

He alleged that A P government was trying to create hurdles for the Palamuru Project, which would provide irrigation facility to three lakh acres. Ministers T Harish Rao and G Jagdish Reddy, Legislative Council deputy leader Nethi Vidyasagar, Parliamentary Secretary Gadari Kishore, Munugode MLA K Prabhakar Reddy, Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham, Zilla Parishad Chairman Balu Naik and others also attended the programme.

As Shivannagudem fell in sensitive area, the police made elaborate security arrangements to the Chief Minister’s programme. In all, 1200 policemen including 10 DSPs, 20 CIs and 70 SIs were deployed for bandobust duty. Due to heavy rains, the tents setup for the Chief Minister’s meeting collapsed much before the commencement of the meeting. However, the meeting was conducted as a large number of people attended it.
