CASH-FOR-VOTE

TPCC working president alleges that Chief Ministers of AP and TS are pursuing their personal agendas

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday accused Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, K Chandrashekar Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu respectively, of cheating the people of their respective States.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here, Bhatti alleged that both the Chief Ministers were pursuing their personal agenda while completely ignoring the welfare of common people. He said both the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had failed to fulfill the promises that they had made to the people in their election manifestoes.

Therefore, they are now enacting political drama to divert people's attention from their failures. He alleged that the behaviour of both the parties was an insult to democracy. Bhatti demanded that everyone involved in ‘cash-for-vote’ scam should get severe and exemplary punishment.

Further, he demanded a probe into the wealth accumulated by Chandrashekar Rao, which he alleged, was being used to purchase legislators of Opposition parties. He also questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government on the issue.

He said although Modi made tall claims on eradicating corruption, he had maintained a questionable silence on ‘cash-for-vote’ scam as it involved its ally. He reminded that the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Bangaru Lakshman was convicted for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

The TPCC leader also accused Governor ESL Narasimhan of playing the role of a mute spectator. He said that the Governor should exercise his powers to stop the ongoing ‘political drama’ between the TRS and TDP leaders.

He said stern action should be taken against both the Chief Ministers by initiating a CBI probe against their activities and actions. He warned the ministers of both the States against provoking the people of Telugu States for political mileage.
