Khammam: The CPI-ML (New Democracy) opined that Podu cultivation did not lead to reduction of the forest cover in the State, while accusing the government of eyeing forests as a revenue generating source.

In a meeting held at the party office here on Tuesday, district CPI (ML) Secretary Potu Ranga Rao refuted the charges made by TRS district president Budan Baig that the Left Parties were trying to blame the government over the Podu land issue.

“It’s not right to say that CPI-ML and the other Left Parties are trying to castigate the TRS government. For many years, the Left Parties have been demanding the rulers to render justice to tribals by granting rights over Podu lands,” he said.

Referring to the clashes between the forest officials and the members of the tribal community at Marrigudem, Bojjaigudem and Bandarigumpu villages in the district, he demanded the ruling party leaders to explain why the incidents took place.
