N Uttam Kumar ReddyHyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, on Friday accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of misleading the people of the State with his gifts, like Iftar and free clothes, etc on the occasion of Ramzan.

TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition in Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, demanded that KCR fulfil his promise to give 12 per cent reservation by issuing an ordinance.

The TPCC president said the State government did not spend even 15 per cent of Rs 1,100 crore budget allocated for Minorities welfare during the first quarter. "Not a single rupee has been spent for Shaadi Mubarak and other welfare schemes," he added.

KCR had insulted the entire Muslim community by offering a meagre Rs 1,000 monthly salary to Imams. He wondered whether the Chief Minister had consulted the Ulemas before making this announcement.

Earlier the Congress government in 2004-05 offered to pay Rs. 5,000 salary a month to Imams, but it was rejected by the Muslim Personal Law Board. “All these stunts are aimed at securing political mileage in next GHMC polls," he said. He further said that the TPCC too would organise Iftar parties across Telangana State from village to State levels on July 10.
