ALMATTI DAM HEIGHT INCREASE

Hyderabad: The Telangana TDP on Tuesday warned Telangana government on the increase of the height of Almatti dam on Krishna river by the Karnataka government. Addressing the press here, party senior leader R Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the proposal to increase the height of the dam to 524 metres from the present 519 meters would further aggravate water crisis in Telangana.

The projects on Krishna in Telangana – Jurala , Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar were already receiving less inflows due scanty rainfall every year. If the government feigned ignorance on the increase of the dam height and release of water from the upper riparian state, the T state would plunge into perennial water problem, he said and demanded the government to protect the distressed farmers from the drought prevailing in the state.

Over 30 lakh farmers could not avail crop insurance due to the government’s failure in submitting report on drought to the centre last year, the TDP leader added.
