Hyderabad: Now it is official. The TRS government’s much-talked about 2-bedroom housing scheme for poor is a non-starter. Though 15 months have passed since TRS came to power, the government is yet to kick-start the housing programme. The scheme was one of the important promises made by the TRS during 2014 elections.

According to the information given by the Housing Board in a reply to an RTI query by CPI(M) leader M Srinivas, the government had allocated Rs 1,849 crore in the 2015-16 budget but so far no amount was released for the 2 BHK scheme. The Board stated that it had not taken up any activity to construct the 2-bedroom houses after June 2, 2014.

However, it had issued GO Ms No 2 and GO Rt No 69 on June 4, 2015 to enable the authorities to implement the scheme in Warangal and Mahbubnagar districts. However, Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy said the government would take up the housing programme after Dasara.

He said they were working on integrating various housing schemes of the Centre with the TS government’s 2 BHK scheme. The TS government proposed to construct 2,000 houses in each Assembly segment so that two lakh houses will be constructed in one year and 10 lakh houses in five years.
