Malavath Purna, who became the youngest female climber in the world to scale Mount Everest, will now have a rare honour. She will be addressing the 70th United Nations General Assembly on September 17. Purna, a student of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Education Institutions Society (TSWREIS), will be speaking on ‘Sustainable Developmental Goals on Poverty’.

She will be addressing the 70th United Nations General Assembly on September 17. Purna, a student of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Education Institutions Society (TSWREIS), will be speaking on ‘Sustainable Developmental Goals on Poverty’.

At the UN General Assembly in September, countries will have the opportunity to adopt a set of global goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. The 14-year-old girl from Nizamabad district is one among the 16 students from across the country who would be attending the General Assembly, which is scheduled to begin on September 15 in New York City.


“I am told by principal that I got selected to speak in the UN General Assembly and I am preparing for it,” Purna told The Hans India. Purna is currently studying Intermediate first year. Purna along with S Anand Kumar of Khammam climbed the Mount Everest.Recently Nizamabad District Collector Yogitha Rana appointed the mountaineer as brand ambassador for the Individual Sanitary Lavatories scheme in her native village – Pakala of Sirikonda mandal in the district.
