Hyderabad: In what can be seen as a lifeline decision for State-owned Road Transport Corporation, the Telangana government has decided to hand over maintenance of city bus services to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). This will give a financial boost to RTC to run its services without bothering about losses that are put at Rs 218 crore per year in State capital alone.

Announcing this decision after a Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said the GHMC commissioner would be included in Board of Directors’ panel of the RTC from here on. He will be reviewing financial accounts and take decisions accordingly to ensure RTC operates its services smoothly.

Replying to a query about regularisation of contract employees, he pointed out that distribution of the government employees between the two States was 75 percent complete. Once this formality got finished, regularisation process would be taken up, he said and added that no decision was taken on enhancement of salaries of outsourcing employees. Meanwhile, Rao pointed out that Telangana government would be going for demilitarisation of police force.
