Sangareddy: A demand for 12 per cent reservation in jobs and education is high on the minds of Muslims in view of the pre-poll promise made by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to them.
The representatives of several Muslim organisations made their voices heard at the meeting of the Commission of Inquiry into Socio-economic and Educational Conditions of Muslim Minorities, which was held at the District collectorate here on Thursday.
The commission which was constituted by the State government came to Sangareddy to take the opinions of the Muslims in the area. It was an emotional outpour for representatives who narrated the sad state of Muslims in Medak district.
Mohd Khaja Nizamuddin, an advocate and district in-charge of MIM, said that though four committees were set up in the past similar to theirs, no practical implementation of the recommendations was done.
He said that the Muslims were being forced to take the help of commission agents as they were not able to get loans directly from banks. Many posts were lying vacant in Minorities Welfare Department, Waqf Board and in Urdu medium schools.
Mohd Abdul Salam, another representative revealed that teacher posts in 214 Urdu medium schools were lying vacant in the district and that 82 schools didn’t have any teachers and 46 schools had only one teacher.
He warned that if the situation persists, 150 schools may face closure soon. He added that Rs 25 crore that was sanctioned to give loans to Muslim students going abroad for studies was only enough to help 250 students and that 80 students’ loan applications were rejected as they didn’t have GRE and TOEFL scores.
Mohd Khaja, another representative asked the Commission members to visit the subsidised onion sale counters to see who stand in the lines the most to realise the backwardness of Muslim community. Almost every speaker demanded for the 12 per cent reservation to be given as promised by the Chief Minister.
