Hyderabad: An IIT post-graduate from Chennai, who was arrested for allegedly stealing a Harley Davidson motorbike from a showroom had a craze to go on long drives on this high-end motorbike, police said today.

T Kiran (28), working as Assistant Executive Engineer in ONGC Mumbai and drawing a salary of Rs 80,000 was nabbed from Solapur in Maharashtra yesterday and brought to Hyderabad, they said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) A Venkateshwar Rao, on September 1 Kiran came to Harley Davidson showroom in Banjara Hills on the pretext of buying the Street 750 model costing Rs 6 lakh, and after filling the proforma, took a test-drive. He showed a fake driving licence on the name of one Syed Taher.

With his sweet talk and dressing, the showroom staff believed him as true buyer and offered test-drive to him. The accused instead of going on regular test drive route suddenly took another route even as one showroom employee who was following him with another bike could not catch him, the DCP said.

The accused sneaked out of Hyderabad city by filling the tank at a petrol bunk and escaped towards Mumbai through Sadashivapet in neighbouring Medak district. Banjara Hills Police had formed special teams to nab the accused. The accused is crazy to go on long drives on this costly bike. He tried to buy this vehicle in 2014, but his family prevented him as it was not suitable for him, the DCP said.
