Nalgonda: Minister for Health Dr C Laxma Reddy said that the government was keen to further upgrade all the hospitals and ensure quality health services to poor people.

Making opening remarks at Association of Otolaryngologists in India Telangana State Conference (AOI TS CON) – 2015 on Friday, the Health Minister said that the health department has received raw deal by the successive governments in united Andhra Pradesh.

The State government has now initiated steps to streamline the department and improve the quality of health services in government-run hospitals.

Instead of department-wise budget, the State government has introduced hospital-based budget allocation for the purpose, he pointed out.

Laxma Reddy announced that PHCs at mandal level would be upgraded as 30-bed hospital, area hospitals at constituency level to be upgraded as 100-bed hospitals and district hospital as 1,000-bed super specialty hospital.

Reminding that Hyderabad has emerged as a medical hub, he accepted that there is logjam in getting permissions for setting up of private hospitals. Hence, the government was also planning to bring a hassle-free permission system, he claimed.

Later, the Health Minister has inspected the district government hospital and examined the health services in Emergency, Post-Operation, Medical and Aarogyasri wards, and Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). The Minister has expressed satisfaction over the health services being extending to the people.

Speaking on the occasion, Laxma Reddy said that in addition to the existing beds, another block with 150 beds would come up on the premises of the district hospital and a foundation stone would be laid for it soon. He reminded that a 100-bed Mother and Child Care Unit would be inaugurated within a couple of months as building construction was almost all completed.

The Minister has also positively responded to the requests of the District Hospital Superintendent, Dr Amar, to improve the capacity of the electricity transformer up to 500 KV and increase the manpower, the major problems of the hospital.
