Farmer suicides are State murders, says Madhu Yashki. Fuming over the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for its irresponsible attitude towards the farmers’ plight in the State, AICC spokesperson and former MP Madhu Yashki said the government was denigrating the issue of farmer suicides by calling Limbaiah, whose suicide had attracted widespread media attention, as a ‘moneylender’.

Madhu YashkiHyderabad: Fuming over the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for its irresponsible attitude towards the farmers’ plight in the State, AICC spokesperson and former MP Madhu Yashki said the government was denigrating the issue of farmer suicides by calling Limbaiah, whose suicide had attracted widespread media attention, as a ‘moneylender’.

Yashki termed the farmer suicides as murders by the government and held that a case must be registered against it. Speaking to media persons at the Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday, he asked the Cabinet Ministers to rather keep quite on the issue as they were making farmers losing confidence on the government and administration by their statements. Even though the government should have formed a committee for addressing the issue, it continued to be in denial mode.

He said by branding farmers as moneylenders, the government was deriding the issue, which was like ‘rubbing salt on wounds’ of farmers’ families, rather than consoling them. “If a farmer who possess five acres of land is a moneylender, then what should we call K Chandrashekar Rao who is holding 110 acres of land ?” he asked.

Referring to the round table conference organised by the Telangana Jagruthi on Sunday, he also questioned the moral and legal sanctity of the organisation led by Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and MP K Kavitha. Instead of responding to the issue, the government was trying to dilute it, he said.

The senior Congress leader alleged that the entire family of the Chief Minister including Kavitha and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao were minting money by colluding with sand mafia who were smuggling sand from Manjira, the tributary of the Godavari. According to the former MP, even the land mass in the midst of the river was recently given away in the form of ‘patta’.

Linking up the issue of sand smuggling with that of dried up bore-wells in the nearby areas, he held that the Chandrashekar Rao’s family was directly responsible for creating distress among the farming community. Former MLA E Anil ridiculed the round table conference organised by Kavitha.

According to him, this is nothing but watering down the important issue being faced by the new State. “Why is the government trying to play the role of Opposition rather than finding a solution to the issue?” he questioned.
