Hyderabad: The cash-for-vote scam seems to have effectively robbed A Revanth Reddy the chance of heading the Telangana Telugu Desam Party (T TDP). TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, after holding a brainstorming session in Vijayawada on Tuesday, has reportedly decided to retain party MLA L Ramana as T TDP unit president.

Naidu is also understood to have decided to make Revanth Reddy as one more working president along with Errabelli Dayakar Rao. One more factor that seems to have weighed in favour of retaining Ramana as T TDP unit president is the Backward Class vote bank. The party president, according to sources, is wary of taking any risk by elevating Revanth Reddy as president of the party unit in Telangana State when he is facing the cash-for-vote case.

Naidu is said to have told the party leaders that any change in the leadership at this juncture would further damage the party. He is reportedly to have exhorted the party leaders to devise a plan of action to consolidate BC vote bank behind the party. The BC voters account for 60 per cent of total electorate in the State, he has reportedly said.

Naidu is reported to have advised the party leaders to tell the people that it is the T TDP which has given posts and responsibilities to the BCs. The Left parties too have not elevated anyone from the BC community to the top post in their parties. Apart from it, Ramana is considered a non-controversial politician with a clean image and it is regarded as a big advantage for the party to strengthen its base in the state, a senior leader told The Hans India.

Naidu is understood to have told the party leaders that he would give specific job chart to all the three leaders in Telangana State and it will be their responsibility to strengthen the party from village level. He has reportedly asked Revanth Reddy and Dayakar Rao to bury the hatchet and work for strengthening the party.
