Hyderabad: Congress leaders on Friday made it clear that they would corner the State government in the forthcoming Assembly session on the problems being faced by the Osmania University students.

The Congress leaders, including former ministers J Geetha Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, MLAs Padmavathi, G Chinna Reddy and Sampath, Rajya Sabha member M A Khan and others visited the Osmania University hostels on Friday and found out from the students the problems they were encountering.

Addressing the students, Geetha Reddy said she was shocked to see the deplorable conditions in the hostels. She wondered whether this was the way to usher in “Bangaru Telangana.” The hostels were reeling under worsened sanitary conditions. “I asked the sanitation workers about the bad condition of bathrooms and toilets.

They said they are not cleaning bathrooms and toilets due to water scarcity,” she said. She also said the Osmania University students played a key role in the movement for separate statehood. AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi supported a separate Telangana state as she was moved by the sacrifices made by the students, she added.

Venkat Reddy said the students helped the TRS come to power. But it failed to come to the rescue of the students. He assured the students that the Congress would fight on behalf of Osmania University students. Padmavathi alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who spent of Rs 2 crore on his China visit, was reluctant to releas Rs 7 crore to help reopen mess.
