Over 16K apply for liquor outlet licences
Telangana State Excise and Prohibition Department has received overwhelming response from people to establish liquor shops this year.
Hyderabad: Telangana State Excise and Prohibition Department has received overwhelming response from people to establish liquor shops this year.
On Mon- day, when the deadline for submission of applications ended, more than 16,000 applications from enthusiastic liquor traders were submitted for 2,216 shops in the State.
People made beeline in front of the headquarters of State Excise department and in districts headquarters to file the applications.
In view of huge re- sponse on the last day, the applicants were issued tokens to file the applications.
The officials said the process of submission of applications continued beyond midnight and the total number of applications received would be known only by Tuesday morning.
The officials said many of the existing dealers had filed applications in the names of their spouses and also benami names hoping that they could retain licenses.
