Hyderabad: The Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee on Wednesday staged protest at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in Khairatabad demanding the authorities to cancel all the pending applications and allot 1,788 new auto rickshaws only to the new applicants.

Led by JAC Convener Mohd Amanullah Khan, the auto drivers staged dharna demanding the RTA authorities to accept the demand of all auto unions to cancel the pending applications and allot remaining 1,788 new auto rickshaws only to genuine auto drivers who were fresh applicants.

Amanullah Khan alleged that a few auto dealers and financiers purchased driving licenses from auto drivers and applied for auto rickshaws on their behalf. Their intention was to sell the auto rickshaws in black market at higher rates.

He also alleged that some officials of RTA were hand-in-glove with the auto dealers and financiers.Amanullah Khan alleged that the RTA was not following the directions given in GO no. 14 that the remaining auto rickshaws should be allotted to the open category.

The protest led to a massive traffic jam on Khairatabad-Punjagutta Road for about two hours. The JAC leaders later submitted a representation to the Transport Commissioner.
