Hyderabad: The defence ministry is learnt to have cleared the proposal for Godavari drinking water grid proposal on Wednesday. According to sources in Delhi, a letter to the effect would soon be sent to the TS government.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and TRS MPs had made repeated pleas to the defence ministry and the finance Ministry in this regard. The defence ministry sent the proposals to the Union Finance Ministry for cost estimates.

The Finance Ministry has now given a detailed note on the same to the Defence Secretary following which the Defence ministry has cleared the proposal.

The Central clearance would help the government fulfil the long-pending demand by the people in Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities for additional drinking water. The Secunderabad Cantonment was hit by water problem for years.

The age-old water distribution network and inadequate supply by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board were some of the reasons for inadequacies.
