Hyderabad: The Business Advisory Committee, chaired by Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhan Chary, on Wednesday, decided to conduct the monsoon Assembly session for 10 days.

The session, which commenced on Wednesday, will resume the sittings on September 29. There will be holidays on October 2, 3 and 4 on account of Gandhi Jayanthi, Saturday and Sunday. The House will resume sittings again on October 5 and will continue till October 10.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy, floor leaders Errabelli Dayakar Rao (TDP), Dr K Lakshman (BJP), Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM), Ravinder Kumar (CPI) and S Rajaiah (CPM) attended the BAC meeting.

In a counter move to blunt the Opposition attack on farmer suicides in the State, the government came forward with the proposal to hold a debate on suicides of farmers for one full day.

If needed, the debate could even spill over to the next day, the government said. The government also proposed to do away with the Question Hour on September 29 when it would meet again and take up the debate on farmer suicides.

Following the demand of the Opposition parties to increase the time of Question Hour, the BAC decided to extend it by another 30 minutes.

Every day, proceedings will commence with the Question Hour of one and half hours after which adjournment motions would be taken up. Despite Opposition pressing that the House should meet at 9.30 am, government said that it would meet from 10 am till 2 pm every day.

The government also informed the Opposition that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would make a detailed statement on reengineering of irrigation projects, industrial policy and new investments, welfare schemes, and power situation in the State.

TDP floor leader Erabelli Dayakar Rao, who submitted a list of 21 items which included discussion on encounter of two Maoists in Warangal, removal of names from voters list in GHMC limits and defection of MLAs into ruling party.

He insisted that the House discuss the issue of defection of MLAs and their disqualification. However, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao stated that debates on that particular subject were never held in the past. No discussion was allowed when TRS MLAs were lured into joining Congress during YSR regime, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, TDP also sought two seats for its members in the front row. In response, Harish said that the TRS was given only one seat in front row when it had a strength of 26 members ten years ago.

But Errabelli was not in a mood to give up. At this juncture, the Chief Minister intervened and suggested the TDP to discuss it with Speaker and Assembly Secretary and resolve the issue.

Later, speaking to reporters, Errabelli said he raised objections on Ministers counter attacks on Opposition on each and every issue. He appealed to Rao to control his colleagues and ensure they exercised restraint in the House. The Chief Minister responded that a few members were at fault for provoking the treasury benches.
