Palakurthy constituency TDP unit members who gathered at the local TDP office for a meet faced opposition from the TRS leaders as they did not want the TDP meeting held as Power Minister D Jagadish Reddy and Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari were to visit the town to lay the foundation stone for a godown at the Palakurthy market yard.

The TRS workers threw stones at the TDP office accusing TDP of trying to disrupt the foundation stone-laying ceremony which was retaliated by the TDP. Efforts of TDP president Nalla Nagi Reddy and TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao trying to control the situation went in vain. Police intervened and lathicharged both the party activists including Dayakar Rao enraging the TDP workers who clashed with the police.

Sub-inspector Md Osman Shareef was hit on his head with a stone after he caned Dayakar Rao and was bleeding profusely. Also, two constables and three media personnel suffered injuries in the entire incident and were taken for treatment. Police arrested Dayakar Rao and 15 others from both parties. Police arrested 15 activists from both the parties including Dayakar Rao.
