Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is mulling how to increase its revenues following the loss per kilometre is about Rs 326 every day.

Reducing the operational losses per kilometre through fuel efficiency and making efforts to increase occupancy ratio are the measures that the TSRTC is considering.

Apart from this, the TSRTC is also looking forward to the State government’s help to bail it out of its present financial crisis as the efforts considered on its part alone would not be enough to save the public transporter.

Recent financial closing shows that the RTC is running in losses to the tune of Rs 165.39 crore as of August end.Similarly, the RTC has incurred a loss of Rs 159.78 crore during last year up to August end.

Even its earnings have diminished gradually when compared to its last year earnings pegged at Rs.1701.67 crore and the gross current year earnings have been recorded at Rs 1686.38 crore till August end.

As per its physical performance, the RTC is incurring a loss of Rs 326 per kilometre every day as a whole. The reason for the losses is due to the subsidies being provided to various sections, like free passes to students, employees,

physically handicapped, etc, besides plying of buses by private operators on important major routes such as Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Hyderabad-Warangal, Hyderabad-Bangalore and Hyderabad-Mumbai and Nagpur etc., said TSRTC sources.

Speaking to The Hans India, an Employee’s Union leader felt that “If State government diverts at least 10 per cent of its current financial budget being spent on the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project, the RTC can easily be bailed out from its present crisis.”

Another Union leader felt that the RTC was pushed to corner due to large scale purchases of a modern fleet buses last year although several of them were not in working condition. This resulted in the draining out funds of the Corporation.
