Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to launch citizens awareness programme for a week to control mosquito menace in twin cities.

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Wednesday held a review meeting with the Health and Sanitation department officials, following reports that number of dengue and malaria cases have increased in the local body limits.

He directed the officials to hold a special drive to create awareness among the citizens to control the menace. Somesh Kumar asked the Entomology wing to take up fogging and other door-to-door operations to eradicate mosquito menace.

He asked the residents to send an SMS to the Entomology department phone number, which would be announced in the two days.

The GHMC Commissioner further informed the civic body was planning to take up publicity campaign through pamphlets and various other means to create awareness about the anti larval and fogging operations.

He added that the GHMC was also planning to purchase new modernised machines to take up spraying, fogging in the coming days. The Commissioner asked staff of the Entomology to follow the dress code during awareness campaign.
