Hyderabad: Osmania University students on Wednesday called for University bandh on Thursday following highhandedness of police during Chalo Assembly.
The students who took out a rally in support of Chalo Assembly call given by the Left parties over alleged fake encounter of two Maoists were arrested by the police and were sent to Bolarum and Goshamahal police stations. The university students said that they were beaten black and blue by police.
“Some of the students were arrested on Tuesday night itself. They do not have authority to enter into the campus without vice-chancellors.
However, they entered hostels late in the night and arrested the students,” said Kota Srinivas, President, Telangana Vidyarthi Sangam.
On the other hand, police personnel said that they detained 40 students but were let off the in the evening. OU Police Inspector V Ashok said majority of the students who were residing in the campus hostels were non-boarders.
