Ponnam demands correct figure of farmer suicides . Senior Congress party leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar demanded that the State government direct the officials to conduct Grama Sabhas on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and collect details of those farmers who have committed suicide and submit the same to the government.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday, Ponnam alleged that the State government was not in a position to announce correct figure of farmer suicides. He also wanted the ex-gratia of Rs 6 lakh announced by the government to reach all the families of deceased farmers.
Prabhakar said while the Central Crime Bureau and the State government were giving different figures on suicides, MP K Kavitha was giving another figure leading to confusion. The government should organise Grama Sabhas to collect the correct information on the total number of farmers who committed suicides in the State, he said.
