Hyderabad: A joint session of the State Assembly and Legislative Council is likely to be held sometime next week where Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao proposes to make a presentation on the government’s proposal of re-engineering of irrigation projects, which is being opposed by the opposition parties.

According to sources, the CM, who had a 4-hour meeting with Governor E S L Narasimhan on Friday, reportedly discussed the proposal with him. KCR in his presentation will explain about the injustice meted out to Telangana in the utilisation of Krishna and Godavari river water in the undivided AP.

In the wake of the opposition parties jointly launching an attack on the government and holding it responsible for the farmers’ suicides which have been continuing in Telangana state, KCR it is said wants to prove that the farmers’ suicides were unabated due to the neglect of irrigation projects in the Telangana region for the last 60 years.

The joint session will be held for two days during which the opposition will be allowed to express their views on the existing irrigation system in the T state. However, the dates are yet to be finalized, according to the sources.

KCR sought the opinion of the Governor on holding the joint session and he also informed the Governor about the measures the government had taken to contain farmers’ suicides.

The issue of why government decided to adjourn the House just 10 minutes after it met on Thursday is also said to have figured in the meeting.

Another important issue that figured was the decision of AP Government inviting employees and students to relocate to AP by June 2, 2017 to get local nativity status.

The issue of cabinet reshuffle is also said to have come up for discussion. However, no further details were available.
