Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has sought cooperation of seed companies in its bid to make the State as the “seed bowl of the country.”

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao called upon officials of the Agriculture Department, scientists and seed companies to work in tandem to revive the agriculture sector.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting with Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, representatives of the seed companies and senior officials of the Department at Agriculture University, Rajendra Nagar, on Monday.

In the initial phase, he suggested that the seed companies adopt one village each in 95 Assembly segments. Farmers should be briefed about latest methods in practice across the world.

Guidance and encouragement should be given to go for cultivation of seeds in those villages depending upon the nature of soil.Reacting positively, seed companies assured KCR that they would soon to chalk out plans for adoption of villages.

Stating that the Telangana State was supplying 80 per cent of seeds for the entire country, he exuded confidence of achieving higher production in future. At present seed cultivation was being carried out in 2.9 lakh acres, he added.

KCR made a mention of his government’s big plans to revive agriculture sector that was neglected for long in the undivided state. He also held a separate meeting with senior officials of Agriculture Department later.

He said that he would restore past glory for Agriculture University by giving top priority for research. Further vacancies in department would be filled at the earliest, he said.
