Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took a decision to constitute a separate Telangana Wakf Board on Saturday.

The Chief Minister’s Office informed that Chandrashekar Rao had taken a decision to constitute a separate board for Telangana Wakf, with its competent authority Syed Omer Jaleel, who is serving as Secretary, Minority Welfare Department.

Syed Asadullah will be the CEO for Wakf. Currently Mohammed Jalaluddin Akbar, who is also serving as Special Officer of Wakf, will continue as the Director of Minorities Welfare Department. The process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board began during the month of February,

after a four-member Central team, led by Union Minority Affairs Secretary Dr Arvind Mayaram, visited Hyderabad. Besides Dr Mayaram, Joint Secretary Rakesh Mohan, Under Secretary (Wakf) PK Sharma and Central Wakf Council Secretary Ali Ahmed Khan comprised the Central team.

They held detailed discussions with the officials of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on bifurcation of Wakf Board. Special Secretaries of Minorities Welfare Departments Syed Omer Jaleel (Telangana) and Shaik Mohammed Iqbal (Andhra Pradesh),

Wakf Board Special Officer MJ Akbar and State Haj Committee Special Officer Prof SA Shukoor and other officials of both the States were present during the meeting.

The Central team had sought details related to revenue and properties of the present Wakf Board on the occasion.
