Hyderabad: A two-judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt on Tuesday adjourned to November 2 a PIL on the steps need to be taken by the state governments of the twin states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on the heat wave conditions and to grant compensation and employment to the victims’ families.
The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by P Srisailam of Ranga Reddy district. He complained that the State governments had failed to act on the heat wave conditions and did not compensate the families of the victims. K Shravan Kumar, counsel for the petitioner,
sought directions to the State governments to provide shelters, drinking water, ORS sachets in public places and to provide free emergency health services for the heat wave affected people. He pointed out that the State governments of Odissa and Gujarat had taken several preventive steps to tackle the heat wave conditions and to prevent deaths due to heat wave.
When the counsels for the State governments sought time for filing counter affidavits in the case, the bench directed both the governments to take preventive measures to avert heat wave deaths instead of filing counter affidavits. “In fact, there is a need to educate the people by conducting awareness campaigning on the issue.
