Hyderabad: Even as the political heat in Telangana seems to be picking up with all political parties working out strategies and counter-strategies to wrest the Warangal Lok Sabha seat, the Telugu Desam Party appears to be in for a shock as its Rajya Sabha MP Gundu Sudharani is all set to switch over to the TRS on Thursday.

Interestingly, many of those who are elevated to the Rajya Sabha by the TDP have been shifting loyalties to other parties. Mysura Reddy and C Ramachandraiah are among those who had quit the party earlier.

According to sources in New Delhi, Sudharani met Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday morning. Special representative to the government S Venugopalachari and TRS MP Vinod are said to have played a key role in roping her into the party-fold. Her term will end in June 2016.

Political circles here feel that there are several reasons for taking Sudharani into the TRS. Sources say that she would be the party candidate from Warangal East in 2019 elections. At present, the seat is held by Konda Surekha.

TRS sources here say that Sudharani is being admitted to the party to put a check on Surekha who has been unhappy with the party leadership as she was not taken into the council of ministers. Both Surekha and Sudharani belong to the Padmashali community. The Warangal East constituency has a large number of Padmashali voters.

Sudharani is a postgraduate in Public Administration from Madurai Kamaraj University and worked as TTD board member between 2002 and 2004. She was the Floor Leader of the TDP in the Warangal Municipal Corporation between 2005 and 2010.

Her family members own a hotel and petrol bunk in Warangal. It may be mentioned here that she was one among the three TDP MPs Y Sujana Chowdary and T Devender Goud, who absented themselves from crucial voting when the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha in December 2012.

It is also learnt that former MLC Pulla Padmavathy of the Congress, who was an ardent follower of YS Rajasekhar Reddy and a close associate of KVP Ramachandra Rao, has also decided to join the TRS along with her husband and former councillor Pulla Bhaskar.

TTDP leaders L Ramana and E Dayakar Rao, who were in Vijayawada, are said to have discussed the issue with party national president N Chandrababu Naidu and asked district unit president G Satyanarayana Rao to contact her and talk to her.
