T-Hub to expand ops overseas: KTR

Silicon Valley in the US and a few nations in Europe and Middle East that are on IT map already would be the preferred destinations.

Hyderabad: If efforts of IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao fructify, “the T-Hub”-the largest incubator for start-ups-will set up its franchises or branches even in foreign countries in the near future. Silicon Valley in the US and a few nations in Europe and Middle East that are on IT map already would be the preferred destinations.
This was stated by KTR himself during an interaction with the media inside T-Hub building located on the IIIT-Hyderabad premises in Gachibowli on Friday. It may be mentioned here that the Telangana State government made all arrangements to inaugurate the state-of-the-art facility on November 5. Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons Ratan Tata will be the Chief Guest on the important occasion. Governor E S L Narasimhan will also attend the programme.
T-Hub is a G+5 floors structure with an area of 68,000 squarefeet and is rated as the first government green building in the entire State. It has world-class interiors and facilities which are rated very high by Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayan, who personally visited the building few weeks ago during his stay in the city. “We are getting enquiries from Silicon Valley and other places, besides from several parts of the country, to become part of this project,” KTR said.
This T-Hub will accommodate 250-400 start-up companies and around 1,000 people. It consists of plush interiors with launch pads (non assigned seats), accelerators and propellers (assigned seats), mezzanines, discussion surfaces, conference and pantry rooms, breakfast zones among others.
Speaking about the facility, KTR stated that their aim was to ensure that talented IT professionals from our country come out with products like Google, Whatsapp, Facebook or Twitter in the near future. “Many have brilliant ideas but lack of proper sources was hampering their success in the market.
T-Hub will help budding entrepreneurs fulfil their dreams,” he said. To ensure that talented companies do not lose out due to shortage of funds in the initial stage, a decision was taken to include a corpus fund of Rs 10 crore. This would be enhanced with private contributions in the future, the Minister added.
The ISB, IIIT-Hyderabad and NALSAR would provide the budding entrepreneurs in T-Hub with mentorship on business, venture capitalisation, intellectual properties and patent rights among etc. Speaking about the government role, he said that government was just a facilitator and it would not interfere in the day-to-day activities of T-Hub.
Further, he said the second phase of T-Hub would come up at Raidurg on an area of 3 lakh square feet. It would be four times that of first phase and it would accommodate around 4,000 people. The government had planned to complete it in the next three years, KTR said.
