Hyderabad: Telangana State IT and Panchayat Raj Minister K T Rama Rao on Friday urged the External Affairs Ministry officials to take effective steps to protect the workers stranded in Gulf countries.
He told the officials that several workers from the Telangana State had been facing precarious situation because of meagre wages and some of them remained unemployed. KTR was scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister.
But the meeting did not take place. He then met the officials in the Department of the External Affairs Ministry and explained the plight of the Gulf migrants. He was accompanied by some relatives of the migrants. Seeking urgent steps to provide immediate protection to the migrants, KTR told the officials that most of sufferers in Gulf countries came from Karimanagar, Nizamabad, Warangal and other Telangana districts.
KTR also explained to the officials that several workers were cheated by the agents. Some of them ended up doing temporary jobs for meagre wages and they were forced to live in miserable conditions. The Minister urged officials to take steps to ensure that the workers from Telangana in Gulf and Dubai and other nations get job security, timely and suitable salaries.
