When the country and the State are engulfed in problems, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuing his foreign tours, while Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is busy spending his time in his farm house, observed noted activist Prof Kancha Ilaiah. He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Bihar Elections and Future of Nation’ organised by the Congress in Indira Bhavan on Sunday.

While likening the BJP in the Centre with the TRS in the State, Prof Ilaiah felt that both had failed to fulfil the ‘electoral promises’. Both would be removed from power, if elections were held in this situation, he said. Analysing the results of Bihar, he noted that the BJP tried to achieve political gains by polarising voters, which had failed in its scheme this time. “Had the BJP won Bihar elections, it would have unhinged the macro economics and secular fabric in the country,” he explained.

Kancha Ilaiah found the Congress aligning with local parties as a positive development for ‘securing secularism’.

Describing the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as a great leader, he found his policies as unifying element for India as a nation. He called upon the Congress activists to take Nehru and B R Ambedkar as their role models.

The seminar was attended by Prof Akbar Ali, Prof Ansari, Prof Venkateshu and Siasat’s Managing Editor, Zaheer Ali Khan and others. While TPCC spokesperson Mallu Ravi presided over the programme, chief official spokesperson of the Congress, Dasoju Sravan and spokesperson, Konagala Mahesh acted as moderators. TPCC Intellectuals Forum chairman A Shyam Mohan was also present.
