Hyderabad: The city unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Wednesday requested Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy to construct fish markets in the city limits.

CPI(M) Hyderabad city secretary M Srinivas said that the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in February 2012 had already accorded Rs 9.9 crore to construct four modern fish markets at Begum Bazar, Domalguda, Nacharam and Kukatpally and asked the GHMC to construct them within a year..

Srinivas added that the NFDB had also assured GHMC that it would bare 90 per cent of the total amount to construct the fish markets. “The board had also released 50 per cent (Rs 4.4 crore) in this regard,” he said.

“Three years have passed but the civic body is yet to begin the construction of at least one fish market. Citing this now the NFDB is planning to take back the granted funds, which would embarrassing for the GHMC,” the CPI (M) leader said.

The CPI (M) requested Janardhan Reddy to the start the fish market construction at four allotted places in the GHMC limits immediately. He also asked the GHMC Commissioner to extend them to other areas depending on public demand.
