Hyderabad police to introduce Neighbourhood policing
In a bid to find a solution to traffic problems and to curb crimes, the Hyderabad city police have decided to extend concept of “Neighborhood Policing” in entire city by next year. The police have taken the decision following the success of the scheme introduced as a pilot project in certain areas in the city.

Hyderabad: In a bid to find a solution to traffic problems and to curb crimes, the Hyderabad city police have decided to extend concept of “Neighborhood Policing” in entire city by next year. The police have taken the decision following the success of the scheme introduced as a pilot project in certain areas in the city.
The main purpose of this project is to bring attitudinal change among citizens towards road sense and also crime prevention. A common complaint by the motorists and pedestrians in the city is that traffic problems are due to improper parking of vehicles. There is a need to ensure that vehicles are parked at designated areas, it is felt.
In order to implement the new concept of people-police partnership, the Hyderabad police have decided to start “Neighbourhood Policing” in residential colonies where police personnel of respective police station would be present 24/7 to attend to the public grievances. The public shall approach the police personnel to complain about their grievances relating to traffic and other issues.
The new concept has been implemented by the traffic and law and order police at Vijayapuri Colony, Feelkhana and some colonies near St Ann’s college in Mehdipatnam by organising meetings with the Residents Welfare Associations. City police commissioner M Mahender Reddy said the concept of “Neighbourhood Policing” was implemented in Singapore in 1996 and they were successful bringing down crime rate by the year 2000.
