Khammam: Many agitations, rallies, strikes and road blockades organised by various political parties and NGOs against the ruling TRS party and its government during the last few months has been disturbing the normal life in the district.

The municipal workers’ strike a few months back resulted in the spread of various diseases due to the accumulation of heaps of waste everywhere across the district.

The political parties and NGOs along with the tribal people staged dharnas to protect ‘podu’ lands against the government which tried to take away the lands from them in the name of ‘Haritha Haram’, the State government’s green drive. The tribal people are still worried a lot since the issue has yet not been resolved.

All the Opposition parties gave a call for bandh on the issue of farmer suicides demanding the government that they waive off crop loans at one go. They held protest demonstrations, road blockades, ‘rythu bharosa’ yatra and organised rallies across the district causing lot of hardships to the general public.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, N Bhaskar of Nehru Nagar said, “Even after the formation of the Telangana State, many people are not happy. They are facing a lot of problems from the raise of prices to not getting enough salaries. Many people are living under miserable conditions. The employees are finding it difficult to reach office on time due to the strikes and bandhs.”

Recently, CPI (M) organised a road blockade programme of the district boundaries demanding the government that they resolve the problems of the cotton farmers and the public were made to travel to far off distant places to reach their destinations.

TDP leader Venkateshwarlu said, “The TRS government is wasting lot of public money for unnecessary schemes and projects in the State provoking the political parties to go for dharnas and protest against it. From Mission Kakatiya to double bedroom houses, all the schemes are meant for the TRS activists and not for the weaker sections of the society.

“The ASHA workers have been on strike for the last three months demanding a hike in their salaries. The people who were living in the Agency and remote areas in the villages are dependent on the services provided by the ASHA workers, but now badly hit.

Kanakachary, a social activist said, “Some of the political parties are deliberately encouraging people to participate in strikes causing a lot of inconvenience to the general public. Every citizen has a right to protest against the government if it does wrong things. But the strikes, dharnas and besieging the government offices must not become a regular feature. The government must solve genuine problems of the people and take stringent action against those who unnecessarily disturb the functioning of the various government departments.”
