New Delhi: A Supreme Court bench consisting Justice J S Khehar and Justice R Banumathi, on Tuesday dismissed the contempt petition filed by the aspirants of DSP promotions against the then DGP Prasada Rao and cleared the decks for promotions in the Hyderabad zone.

It is up to the two governments now to complete the process in this regard. The petitioners could seek legal remedy in case of any lacunae in the process.

There was a delay in the promotions process as the Hyderabad zone was a separate unit delinked from the rest of the zones in the State. The government(s) contended that the delay was not intentional and the process had run into problems due to technical reasons.

The Court had asked the two governments of AP and Telangana to go ahead and complete the process of according promotions to eligible candidates as per rules.

The contempt petition was filed by the aspirants alleging that the government (united AP Government) was ignoring the court orders. They had implicated the DGP as responsible for the same in the petition.

The counsels for the two Governments, P P Rao (for AP) and Giri (for Telangana) contended that the delay was not due to any negligence or deliberate attempts and there was no intention to delay the processat all.

The DGP of AP, J V Ramudu and former DGP, Prasada Rao and officials of Telangana were present. Senior counsels Adinarayana and A D Nageswar Rao appeared for the petitioners.
