Hyderabad: The Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) users coming towards Kandlakoya junction are having nightmares in accessing to the other side of the ORR, through National Highway 7.

Kandlakoya junction posing risk to the lives of pedestrians and commuters alike

The unfinished one kilometre stretch of ORR near Kandlakoya, pending for the last five years, has become a big nuisance for the ORR users. The ORR stretch is currently connected with two-lane diversion roads which connect from the concluded point of ORR at Shamirpet to National Highway 7, towards Seethariguda and then to an initial point of ORR at Kandlakoya.

This makes the user to cover an extra three kilometre distance to get to the other side of ORR. Ruveen Agarwal, a bank employee, who passes through this route frequently, said, “During night, these connective roads become very dangerous as the passage is very narrow. They are in very pitiable condition and attract many illegal activities during nights.”

He further added that commuters have to risk their lives to cross NH7 during night hours as there is a heavy chance of vehicles crashing.

K Narsimha Reddy, Alwal traffic inspector, said the incomplete stretch of ORR was a challenging task for the travelers. “Commuters arriving from Shamirpet intending to go to NH6 towards Narsapur or NH9, which goes to Mumbai directly without entering into city, suffer a lot,” he said. The commuters coming from either side from Kandlakoya to go towards Vijayawada also suffer the same, he added.

HGCL Chief General Manager B Anand Mohan said the works on the stretch were delayed due to Supreme Court case. “Few days back we got an interim relieve from SC and got approval to begin the work,” he said, adding that works were recently allotted to the contractors and would be completed by the end of next year.
