Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprises Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice Challa Kodandaram on Wednesday sentenced senior bureaucrat and Ranga Reddy District Collector Raghunandan to undergo imprisonment for a period of one month in a contempt case.

The bench took cognisance of the complaint that in spite of directions by the court about a decade ago, the revenue authorities had failed to evict encroachers from land in Suraram Colony, Ranga Reddy district. The land meant for people among weaker sections was grabbed by illegal occupants.

It is complained that though the High Court had directed eviction of illegal occupants, the revenue authorities not only failed to comply with the directions,

but took the plea that it was the policy of the government to allot the said lands to occupants as part of its rehabilitation policy. The bench faulted the contemnor of taking a stance contrary to the directions of the court. The bench suspended the operation of the order for two weeks.
