Warangal: The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed across the district on Thursday.

Various government and non-governmental organisations have organised different programmes marking the occasion. At the district headquarters, the Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens has organised a meeting at Ambedkar Bhavan in Hanamkonda on the day.

Prior to the meeting, a rally was taken out from Public Gardens to Ambedkar Bhavan. Additional JC S Tirupathi Rao, Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens Department Assistant Director R Keshava Reddy, MEPMA Project Director K Purushotham and others attended the meeting.

The officials addressing the gathering explained the programmes being implemented by the State government for the welfare of the physically challenged persons. They asked the disabled persons to make use of such programmes.

Similarly, a programme was conducted at Government Zilla Parishad Primary and Secondary School at Mucharla in Hasanparthy mandal. Prizes were distributed to the winners of different competitions organised by the school.

Secondary School Headmaster G Kanaka Raju, Primary School Headmaster M Vijender Reddy, teachers A Praveen Kumar, K Venkateshwaralu, Porika Raj Kumar, N Rajaiah, and others attended the programme. Headmasters Kanaka Raju and Vijender Reddy addressing the gathering called upon the teachers to make efforts to bring out the talents hidden in the physically challenged students.

“Persons with impairment are not disabled, but those, despite having a fit body, failed to make use of it to excel in life are the real disabled,’ they added.
