Warangal: The decision by the Telangana State MPTCs Forum to field a member of the forum in the local body constituency MLC election is causing hindrance in the ruling TRS’ efforts to make the election unanimous.

Even before the forum state leaders’ statement on Thursday in Hyderabad to contest in the election on their own, its leaders in Warangal district have been making efforts in that direction. A couple of days ago they held a meeting where they decided to fight the MLC election.

The forum district president D Chandramouli, state general secretary A Yakaiah and a group of MPTCs attended the meeting. The names of three forum leaders were selected as probable candidates, which includes Chandramouli.

The MPTCs Forum leaders were said to be sulking over lack of funds and power. The MPTCs wanted exclusive offices for them in the villages and release Rs 10 lakh to each MPTC office for development of civic needs.

‘In order to claim our rightful place in developmental activities we decided to contest in the election,’ said the forum leaders A Yakaiah and J Mahboob Reddy. Efforts would be made to get the forum nominee elected by seeking the support of all the MPTCs cutting across political affiliations, they said. Many of the MPPs were also ready to support the forum nominee, they added.

It might be noted that of the total 860 voters from different local authorities, the MPTCs constitute majority of voters with 687 votes belonging to them. This gives them an edge in the MLC election.

Given the fact that majority of the voters in local bodies belong the ruling TRS, how the MPTCs forum manages to get their support in the election was a big question that needed to be answered.

Responding on the decision of the MPTCs Forum, the TRS district president stated that they were positive over their efforts to make the election unanimous. About 600 voters in local bodies belong to the TRS and majority of voters from other parties have also coming forward to lend their support, he said.

‘The forum decision is an effort to put pressure on the government in getting their demands fulfilled and it is common during elections. The government is ready to address their demands,’ Ravinder Rao told The Hans India.

“We are fully confident of winning the election unanimously,” he added.
