Commission seeks enquiry report from Chikkadapally ACP

Hyderabad: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Thursday directed the Chikkadpally Assistant Commissioner of Police to submit an enquiry report about the ‘beef festival’, scheduled on December 10 at Osmania University. Following threats from Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh to stall the festival, the students of Osmania University approached the SHRC.

The students, in their petition, said Raja Singh had threatened to stall scheduled festival on the university campus. They requested the SHRC to intervene in the issue. “The SHRC directed the Chikkadpally ACP to probe about the threat from the MLA to students and what kind of protection the police can give.

The Commission told the police to submit a report on December 7,” said K Sanjay, Advocate representing OU students. Meanwhile, despite the red flag from the OU administration for the festival, the students decided to go ahead. The students said that they do not require any permission from the administration to hold the festival.

“When we did not ask for the permission, how can university circulate message that they did not give a nod for the festival. Students have right to whatever they want to do in the university,” said RN Shankar, state secretary, AISF.
