Warangal: The political lobbies in the district were busy in guessing the fortunes of BC leaders in the TRS party in getting the ticket to contest for the local bodies’ constituency MLC election as the party decided to field a leader from the backward classes.

The front runner among the leaders is former MLC and the husband of Warangal (East) MLA K Surekha, Konda Muralidhar Rao. He is said to be favourite among those aspiring to get the party ticket.

The party’s decision to field a leader from the Backward Classes has also boosted the hopes of BC leaders like K Rajaiah Yadav and N Venkateshwarlu to get the ticket. But the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was said to be inclined towards Muralidhar Rao in view of the couple’s efforts to get a good majority in the recently held Warangal Lok Sabha by-election. In addition to this, the Chief Minister reportedly assured an MLC seat to him when he along with his wife Surekha joined the TRS.

Meanwhile, a senior leader among BCs in the district TRS, K Rajaiah Yadav has also been strongly lobbying for the party ticket. He was associated with the party from its inception and has been claiming his steadfast loyalty to the party as eligibility criterion to get the ticket. It was suspected that if Rajaiah Yadav was denied the ticket, it could lead to unrest among the party leaders who were associated with the party from the beginning. It might be recalled that when Kadiam Srihari was made the Deputy Chief Minister, Rajaiah Yadav had openly expressed his disappointment over new comers getting priority in the party.

According to party sources, though Muralidhar Rao emerged as the front runner, there could be last minute surprises in the selection of the candidate for the MLC election.

Nonetheless, upper caste leaders like A Varada Reddy and the TRS district president T Ravinder Rao were still continuing their efforts to get the party nod to contest in the local bodies MLC election.

On the other hand, none of the leaders of Telangana State MPTCs Forum who have claimed to file nomination for the local body constituency MLC election in the district on Friday has submitted their nominations.

Even as three days have passed since the issue of notification, no nomination was filed for the election so far.
